Why Clean Beauty Products Are Important to Me
I’ll be honest — my love for makeup started when I was about 8 years old.
My mom had this shade of Estée Lauder lipstick that I could not get enough of. The color was called Rosa Rosa, and I can still remember the name to this day.
My mom had the best makeup collection, and it was all thanks to my Nanny (my grandma), who worked at the Estée Lauder counter in our local mall. Every holiday she would gift my mom the newest collections of eyeshadows, blushes, lipsticks, and perfumes.
Those gifts were meant for my mom… but to me they were pure magic.
I would secretly wait for any opportunity to get my hands on that makeup and play with it. Watching my grandmother and my mom always look so put together, naturally beautiful, and confident during the biggest occasions made a lasting impression on me.
I wanted to be good at makeup. I wanted to feel that same confidence.
For decades I shopped the big beauty stores, always looking for the newest and best products, trying to keep up with every new makeup trend.
It wasn’t until my mid-twenties that I (a little shamefully) started a real skincare routine — cleansers, toners, and moisturizers.

I was so excited. I finally felt hopeful that I could bring my skin back to life.
Until we reached the checkout counter.
I casually mentioned that I was excited because this new routine might help give me a little confidence back during pregnancy.
The sales associate paused and asked,
“Wait… are you pregnant right now?”
I said yes.
She then informed me that several of the products she had just recommended were not safe to use during pregnancy.
I was stunned.
It had honestly never even crossed my mind that the products I was putting on my skin every day might not be safe during pregnancy.
That moment completely changed how I viewed skincare and makeup.
From that day forward, I decided I wanted to clean up the ingredients in both my skincare and makeup routine.
And when I say I had spent a shameless amount of money on beauty products over the years, I truly mean it.
